Diving Adventures: My First Trip with Dive Rutland to Capernwray

As a new member of Dive Rutland, my excitement was palpable as I prepared for my first dive trip with the team. The journey began on Friday 4th July after a long week at work. I hopped into my car and made my way to Capernwray, eager to meet up with a few fellow divers at our accommodation. To my delight, the quality of the lodging was exceptional for the price we paid for two nights. A big shoutout to Tracey for organising such a great spot!
Saturday: Diving into Adventure
The next morning, Saturday 5th July the team gathered at Capernwray for a 9:00 AM start. Our first order of business? A hearty breakfast of bacon sandwiches to fuel our day ahead. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the team was buzzing with excitement, a vibe that would carry us through the entire weekend.
After breakfast, Tracey led a site orientation for those of us new to Capernwray. It was a helpful introduction that set the tone for our dives. Once we paired up for buddy diving, I teamed up with Darren, a Dive Master at Dive Rutland. We decided to join Ben’s group, eager to explore the site together.
Throughout the day, we embarked on multiple dives. The access to the water was seamless, despite the number of divers present. Everyone was respectful and mindful of each other, which enhanced the overall experience. The dive site itself was breathtaking, and Tracey's calm demeanor helped ease any nerves, reminding us that this trip was all about enjoying club diving without pressure.
After our dives, I was determined to try the famous carrot cake at the site café, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! It was the perfect sweet treat to wrap up our diving adventures for the day.
A Night of Camaraderie
Saturday evening was a time for relaxation and bonding. The team headed to a local pub for dinner, drinks, and lots of laughter. It was a fantastic opportunity to unwind and connect with my fellow divers outside of the water.
Sunday: Another Day, Another Dive
Sunday 6th July was a mirror image of the previous day. I paired up with Darren once again, and we enjoyed the same friendly, calm atmosphere filled with laughter. The joy of diving in such a supportive environment truly made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Reflecting on a Memorable Trip
As the trip came to a close, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the fantastic time I had. The combination of quality lodging, an impressive dive site, and the camaraderie of the Dive Rutland team made this trip unforgettable. A special thanks to Tracey, our “dive mum,” who tirelessly organises these adventures behind the scenes without asking for anything in return (maybe a gin and tonic!)
I left Capernwray with a heart full of joy and excitement for future dive trips with Dive Rutland. The members are an incredible group of people, and I can’t wait for our next adventure together!
