These are tools for the jobs an owner can reasonably do: swapping an O-ring, freeing a handwheel, adjusting webbing, carrying spares. Anything internal belongs with a trained technician and the right service kit.

    What these tools are for

    Most of what is here covers owner level maintenance and save a dive fixes: removing and replacing O-rings, freeing a stiff valve handwheel, dealing with an inflator, adjusting webbing and carrying a small set of spares. Used sensibly they save dives. What they do not do is qualify anyone to service a regulator, a BCD inflator or a cylinder valve. Those have internal wear parts, service kits, torque figures and test procedures that belong to a trained technician working to the manufacturer schedule.

    O-ring tools

    An O-ring pick is the difference between a two minute fix on the boat and a dive you do not do. Picks come in several profiles, and the O-rings themselves are sized to the fitting rather than being general purpose, so match the O-ring to the equipment rather than to whatever is loose in the box. A set with a few profiles is more use than a single tool.

    Regulator and cylinder tools

    Cover removal tools, support handles, adjustable spanners and Schrader valve tools are made for particular jobs and sometimes for particular manufacturers parts, so check the manufacturer specification before assuming one fits your kit. Using them on the outside of your equipment is reasonable. Using them to open a first stage or a cylinder valve is not.

    Drysuit tools

    SiTech combi tools and valve removal tools are made for specific valve and ring systems, so check what your suit is fitted with before ordering. The systems are not interchangeable.     Building a save a dive kit

    A small tool roll that lives in the car is worth more than a full bench at home. Assorted O-rings, a pick, spare mask and fin straps, a mouthpiece and cable ties cover a large share of the things that end a day of diving. Add the tools your own setup actually takes, and if you are not sure what those are, bring the kit in and ask.

    Frequently asked questions

    No. Regulator servicing needs manufacturer training, the correct service kit for that model, calibrated test equipment and the manufacturer torque and pressure figures. A regulator that goes back together slightly wrong can still breathe fine on the surface and fail when you need it.

    No. Drysuit valve and ring systems differ between manufacturers and between generations of the same manufacturer, and the tools follow the system.

    Identify what is fitted to your suit before ordering. The system name is usually marked on the ring or the valve body. If you cannot find it, send us a photo and we will tell you what you are looking at.
