Hold it against your face without the strap, breathe in gently through your nose, and let go. A mask that seals will stay put on suction alone.
Then check the detail: no gaps where the skirt crosses the bridge of your nose, nothing pinching at the temples, and enough room that you can reach your nose to equalise. Facial hair on the upper lip will affect the seal on most masks, which is worth mentioning when you come in.

Some twin-lens masks accept corrective lenses in place of the standard ones, which is the tidiest solution for most people. Availability depends on the specific mask and the prescription, so check before buying the mask.
Contact lenses are also common underwater. Bring your prescription when you come in and we will tell you what is possible for the masks we stock.

New masks usually have a manufacturing residue on the inside of the lens that has to come off before anti-fog will work. Until it does, the mask will fog no matter what you put on it.
After that, a little anti-fog before each dive, and rinsing rather than wiping the inside of the lens, keeps it clear. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for preparing a new mask, as the recommended method varies by brand.
