Diving Capernwray July 2026
Diving Capernwray with Dive Rutland July 2026
The annual trip to Capernwray again took place over the first weekend in July. this is an annual event as it coincides with the open water dives of the Dive Centres junior scuba and / or open water divers.. specifically those aged 10 - 12 years old.
It is such a lovely weekend that the Dive Club gate crashes and joins in, why well it is lovely watching our junior divers progress from the pool to the open water and their enthusiasm is infectious, so feeds in nicely to the ethos of our dive club.
Saturday
Road diversions in place around Capernwray caused some interesting detours but everyone made it and then the first order of the day for most was breakfast, where the usual conversation of is it a roll, a bap, a bun or a cob occured - yes really it happens everytime.
Ben and Tracey then took the juniors - Bertie and Henry and organised themselves for the Junior Scuba Diver dives 1 and afterwards 2.. just how much food can Henry eat in one day?
Whilst that was happening everyone else organised themselves and went for a couple of lovely dives. Viz did not let us down, it did not matter where you were it was good (until someone stirred it up that is!)
Saturday night saw most of us staying at Tewitfield Marina, some camped, but most met up in the evening to eat together at the Longlands pub and resturant where the banter of the day continued.
Sunday
Breakfast sorted, and two new Junior Scuba Divers in the group. Another day of two dives.
Bertie and Henry stayed with Ben and Tracey and had two lovely dives - max depth of 12 metres but with a little help, managed to get to the top of the tail of the aeroplane and then back to the shelf. The boys did good.. the fish were happy as a lot of sweetcorn accompanied them and was duly given out to them.
Everyone else did their thing with the last dive of the weekend going for a full tour of Capernwray - seeing pretty much everything.
Then the long journey home.
Weather
Yes lets talk weather, we came off a week of hot weather, to drive north to find that we needed jumpers.. the weather had cooled and some of the group did not pack for cold or wet weather... So whilst we had overcast and cool weather home was bathed in sunshine - yes really! The whole thing about big coats really is a thing!
Social Media
Tracey gave an instruction for the weekend, that she need pictures of any chocolate eaten or present for World Chocolate day social media later in the week - guess how many she got? It seems chocolate is the order of the day for divers.
Help was asked to write this blog
So comments and stories were asked for to help with writing this blog and here are just some of what was received. Behind every comment is a story, but as I was not in the group (I had the joys of Bertie and Henry), I can not elaborate so the whole adage of what goes on tour stays on tour definitely occurs here.
- Some people are just not cut out to ride a horse.
- “Can I have have half a chicken”!
Thanks to everyone that came
