SSI Master Explorer Speciality Sessions
The SSI Explorer programme provides that along with the enthusiasm of the Dive Rutland dive professionals. Life is about adventures and experiences after all.
COURSE OVERVIEW
During the Master Explorer speciality sessions, you will continue to join Emma and Nico on their underwater adventures, combined with the guidance and supervision of our wonderful, highly qualified SSI Explorer Instructors.
WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
- To have completed the Snorkel and Scuba Explorer
WHAT WILL I DO?
Choose your specialities and book your sessions in (price is per session). The dates for the sessions are in the calendar - Oakham two specialities per session.
On completion of each session subject to meeting all the performance requirement the specialities will be achieved as you move through the various explorer awards.
- Speciality Explorer will be awarded after Scuba Explorer and 2 other specialities earned
- Advanced Explorer will be awared after Scuba Explorer and 4 other specialities earned
- Master Explorer will be awarded after Scuba Explorer, Rescue Explorer and 4 other specialities earned
What are the benefits of the SSI Explorer?

- Is a fun pool-only experience.
- Is conducted by certified, trained SSI Professionals.
- In addition to having fun the SSI Explorers adventures will enable young water lovers to acquire maturity, self-esteem, and a sense of responsibility.
MATERIALS
Our explorers already have their manuals to continue working through and logging their dives in as these were issued at the start of Snorkel and Scuba Explorers
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
There are over 14 different specialities to choose from and more being added, so much to choose from or just do them all!. Each session with us you will cover two specialities.
See the published calendar to choose which specialities and dates to attend, but you do need to book in (calendar can be downloaded here)
On your chosen speciality day, you will meet your SSI Dive Professional at the dive centre at 16:30 for a full briefing and equipment preparation, followed by a 2 hour pool session 18:00 - 20:00 and a debrief session.
The pool session is held at Oakham School, Kilburn Road, Oakham, Rutland
Each session also requires a parent/guardian to be present throughout.
Any Other Costs?
We do strongly advise for hygiene purpose that all students own their own mask and snorkel, but not mandatory as school masks and snorkels can and will be provided

The best part of the Explorer programmes is that they reinforce safe diving and build water confidence while the young divers are having fun. Explorers get to sample a wide variety of dives. In addition, this programme provides a structure for young divers to develop skills, learn about the aquatic environment and have a lot of fun.
This is also an excellent introduction to SCUBA diving prior to full Open Water Diver certification

Oakham Swimming Pool
The 25m heated swimming pool at Oakham School's Leisure Centre is perfect for scuba diver training and kids' diving courses. This state-of-the-art facility provides laned sections for focused training and a comfortable, warm environment, ensuring an ideal learning experience for divers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're refining your technique or introducing children to the wonders of diving, our pool offers the perfect setting.
Our pool session(s) are on Saturday evenings from 18:00 - 20:00, with a meet at the Dive Centre prior (this time will be confirmed when you book). The time at the Dive Centre is spent on various activities depending on which course you are undertaking but for all first session this will involve introducing you to your instructor, the dive equipment you will be using in the pool, a safety briefing and the evenings activities. During non term time then we have a pool session available on a Thursday from 19:00 - 21:00.
