Overview of the SSI Deep Diver Speciality

What will I Do During the SSI Deep Diver Speciality?

During your SSI Deep Diver Specialty course, you'll learn techniques for diving in the deeper range of 18-40 metres including

  • What your Surface Air Consumption rate (SAC) is
  • Safe diving techniques, planning and skills
  • Scuba Diving equipment considerations for diving to depth
  • Safety stops under a DSMB, deployed by you.

The course includes 3 dives with one of our SSI Deep Specialty Instructor(s) where you will plan and carry out the dives along with practicing emergency procedures including the use of alternate air supplies, extended safety stops and understanding the physiological effects of depth.

How Long does the SSI Deep Diver Speciality take?

Over and above the online elearning via the SSI App, you will complete the three dives over one day at our chosen training site

We also take advantage of trips to provide this course.

What Preparation should I undertake to be well prepared for the SSI Deep Diver Speciality?

Being well prepared for your Deep Diving Speciality ensures you’ll get the most out of the course and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Master the basics – Be confident with your core diving skills such as assembling your dive equipment, carrying out buddy checks, and general in-water comfort.

Buoyancy control – You should be able to hover and dive neutrally buoyant, as precise buoyancy becomes even more important at depth - the Perfect Buoyancy Speciality helps with this

Deploying an SMB – Practise deploying a Surface Marker Buoy while neutrally buoyant. If you’re new to this skill, consider joining one of our SMB Workshops to learn about different types of SMBs, reels and spools, and how to deploy safely before refining the skill in your own practice.

Any other costs?

Not included is the Entrance fees for open water site and personal travel costs

Whats my next adventure?

Come diving with us, we have many trips and events that can and will utilise the skills you learn on this course, have adventures and make friends.

This speciality counts towards your SSI Master Scuba Diver certification

Outstanding experience especially for young divers!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with dive Rutland ! Tracy and the entire team was very friendly, helpful, and professional from start to finish. They went above and beyond to support our 13 year old for their open water course and her drysuit training.

What really stood out was the patience and care shown throughout the process. The instructors took the time to explain everything clearly, made our
daughter feel confident and safe , and ensured they progressed at a comfortable pace. It was never rushed - just supportive , thorough instructions from a team who clearly loves what they do.

Highly recommend Dive Rutland to anyone - especially families or younger divers. We’re so grateful for the experience and can’t wait to come back!

#1 training centre in my eyes. The team are friendly, courteous and astute to your individual needs and capability. Of course you’d expect to come away with a certification after paying your money; however, you come away with far more than the basic knowledge and skills to pass the certification, you come away feeling capable and competent and with a group of people you want to keep in touch with as friends and dive with more. Keep it up Dive Rutland!

Drysuit Speciality - Was excellent. From the first briefing at the shop. To the pool dive. To the real thing at Stoney Cove (my first time there!). Great mix of professional efficiency with real world fun. Always felt safe. Not the best of weather, but I stayed bone dry. No hesitation in recommending Tracey and the team to anyone considering taking up diving, like me. But be warned, it’s addictive!! Special thanks to Rob
