About Mares

Mares was founded in Italy by Ludovico Mares, a passionate diver, inventor, and innovator. From his early days designing some of the first spearguns, masks, and fins, Ludovico’s vision was to create equipment that made diving safer, more enjoyable, and more accessible. That pioneering spirit still drives Mares today.

For over 75 years, Mares has been at the forefront of dive technology, introducing breakthroughs that shaped the industry: from the first bi-material fins, to liquid silicone masks, to regulators with Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) systems that revolutionised breathing underwater. Many of these innovations became the standard for modern dive equipment worldwide.

Today, Mares continues to lead with five main product lines designed to meet every diver’s needs:

• XR (Extended Range) – for technical, deep, and cave diving explorers

• Pure Passion – freediving and spearfishing equipment

With the addition of rEvo rebreathers and a close partnership with SSI, Mares now supports divers across every level and discipline — from first snorkel to advanced exploration.
