SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality Course Overview
The SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality provides you with the training to lay a single guideline that does not require you to make navigation decisions, in a wreck that has clearly visible entry points and allows access to the surface in and emergency. The sum of depth and the penetration distance is not to exceed 40 metres but depends on your maximum training depth. If qualified to 30 metres then the sum of depth and penetration is 30 metres
This Speciality certification also counts as one of the four Speciality certifications required for your SSI Master Scuba Diver certification.
What do I need to start the SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality Course?
- You need to be 15 years old or over
- Hold the SSI Wreck Diving Speciality
- Have 24 Logged dives
- Be certified to the depth of the wreck the training is being undertaken on
- Mask / Snorkel / Dive Computer / Compass / SMB and Reel
- Your own gloves and dive light / torch
What will I do during the SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality Course?
There are many different types of wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance.
During Open Water session you will :-
- Discuss safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks and how to avoid common hazards
- Learn about planning a Wreck Dive and additional things to add to your dive planning and briefing
- Learn how to lay a static guideline and lost line techniques.
- Learn techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.
- Gain additional experience in planning, organising and making two wreck dives under the supervision of your SSI Instructor and support professionals, enabling you to plan well continued and safe wreck dives
- Learn about the considerations and techniques for entering intact wrecks - using skills learn on the earlier wreck dives
- Deploy an SMB on every dive
What materials will I use during the SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality Course?
You already have the elearning as these were provided during your SSI Wreck Speciality, so if you have not, you will complete the final chapters and the online digital final exam.
How long does the SSI Advanced Wreck Speciality Course take?
- 1 day in open water (completing a minimum of two dives)
