Diving is an inclusive sport and here at Dive Rutland we actively engage with divers who have some level of disability who want to come diving. We make it happen. This course will give you the knowledge, skills and a understanding to be able to support a classified diver and maybe come and join our Dive Support network.
This course offers comprehensive training, expertise, and practical experience to equip classified dive buddies with the confidence and proficiency needed to ensure enhanced safety and support for the Diver with additional in water support requirements (Classified Divers).
The curriculum covers a range of topics, including Diver classification, Medical Considerations, Amputations, Spinal Cord Injuries, Brain Injuries, Cerebral Palsy, Progressive Conditions, Sensory Disorders, Developmental Disorders, Specialised equipment essential for classified diving, Best practices, Water entries/exits, Conducting skills, Propulsion methods, and executing classified dives.
This course is ran by Tracey, who has a real passion for ensuring that anyone who wants to go diving can and provides the safe and secure environment to do just that. So learn from someone who actively applies the skills, practices what will be taught within this course and has the experience gained from things that have and hven't worked
What do I need to start the Classified Buddy Programme?
- Open Water Certified (any agency)
- Rescue Diver (any agency)
- Minimum: 18 years old
- Have proof of First aid and CPR Training in the last 2 years
What will I do during the Certified Buddy Certification?
Through knowledge development and a confined water diving workshop(s) - you will learn useful techniques that will increase your ability to become a better dive partner to a diver with a disability. You'll gain insight and practical experience as you learn about becoming more aware and mindful of individual considerations when diving with people with disabilities.
How long does the Classifed Buddy Programme take?
- Knowledge Development and Workshops
- 1 Pool Session - minimum 2 hours

What is next on completion of the Classified Diver Certification?
- Join the Dive Rutland Support Network and be a classified buddy when we are training a diver who requires a classified buddy and / or classified dive professional
- Dive with one of our club members who need a classified dive buddy
Prior to any Diver training course students need to complete a Mandatory Medical Questionaire.
Please ensure that you have read the Medical Statement and are sure that you will be able to commence any diver training PRIOR to paying as our Training Terms Conditions apply after payment has been made.
A doctor's confirmation of fitness to dive is required if you answer YES to any medical condition on the Medical Statement.
