SSI Extended Range Nitrox (40m) Course
The SSI Extended Range Nitrox (40m) Course program provides divers with the training necessary to independently plan and conduct limited decompression dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters, using nitrox mixtures of up to 50% and recreational or Extended Range Total Divng systems with an equally-qualified dive buddy.
This course can be done in Twinset or Side Mount configuration.
Prerequisites for the SSI Extended Range Nitrox (40m)Course:
- Certification Level: Deep Diving and Enriched Air Nitrox 40% certification & if using a sidemount configuration for the course then Recreational Sidemount Diving course or other agency equivalent
- Have logged at least 24 dives
All dives must be completed using a complete Total Diving System - it is recommended to be a twinset or sidemount system, however you can undertake in a Recreational Total Diving System
Twinset Total Diving System
- A Backplate or soft pack with harness
- A Buoyancy wing with appropriate liffing capacity for the planned dive
- One delivery system that has a regulator with a 2.1 metre hose with attached boltsnap (we recommend Xdeep Small), primary inflation LPI Hose
- One delivery system that has a regulator with a 56cm hose, neck retainer, and an attached SPG on a 56cm hose with attached boltsnap (we recommend Xdeep Small)
- One set of double cylinders with an isolation manifold (we recommend ECS cylinders flat bottom without boots)
- Appropriate weight system (Tail weight and / or V weight)
OR
Sidemount Total Diving System
- Buoyancy compensator with sufficient lift capacity for the planned dive
- An industry-approved Sidemount harness
- One delivery system that has a regulator with a 2.1 metre hose, 15cm inflator for Drysuit
- One delivery system that has a regulator with a 50cm to 75cm hose and neck retainer and 15cm BC hose
- Two cylinders with independant valves
- Submersible pressure gauge with a 15cm high-pressure hose (all cylinders must have an SPG attached)
Both Total Diving Systems with
- A single stage cylinder with regulator with:
- Second stage regulator with 100cm - 110cm hose and SPG on 15cm hose. Oxygen cleaned with stage kit
- Dive computer
- Backup computer or depth gauge and timing device, in the event of a computer failure
- 2 masks (also double ended boltsnap to attach spare mask in your pocket)
- Fins (spare straps)
- Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
- 2 surface marker buoys for deploying from depth (red and yellow surface marker buoys - UK) - (ensure they can be attached in your pockets with appropriate boltsnaps)
- 2 Spools or reel appropriate for the planned dive depth (ensure they can be attached in your pockets with appropriate boltsnaps)
- 2 Cutting devices
- Surface signaling device (whistle or similiar)
- Logbook (available in SSI app)
- Extended Range Dive Planning Sheets, and either wet notes or slate for dive plans
During the course you will complete a day's academic development classroom session. You must complete an Extended Range Diving final exam with a passing score of 80% .
Open Water training days will be at a local inland diving site
- Dives 1 and 2 must be conducted at depths no deeper than 30 meters.
- Dives 3 and 4 must be conducted at depths between 30m and 40m.
One dive must be to a minimum of 35m for certification.
How it works:
- Academic Development: You will be provided with the elearning materials to view the course on www.divessi.com to start your online theory.
- You will have one day scheduled for in person classroom and equipment configurations
- One pool session for the swim test and development of trim, buoyancy, and propulsion
- Two Days in Open Water
You will be assigned and sent an email to view the course materials on www.divessi.com to start your academic development. We will schedule 1 day to complete the first part of the academic development and kit configuration session. The Pool session will contain the swim test and development of trim, buoyancy, and propulsion. 2 days of Open Water will be the bulk of the program, with further academic development session to be scheduled. Thorough de-briefing and feedback will be given at the end of each day.
Course details:
- Certification lasts for life
- We can hire you your kit but the benefit from this course comes by configuring your own equipment.
- All Learning Materials are included
- All Pool fees are included (if required) but entry to open water sites is not.
- All consumables (nitrox and trimix) are extra.
- We are committed to your success, if you require more help we are there for you.
- All courses are performance based, if you require additional dives to complete the program these may be at an additional cost.
Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to dive using the equipment configuration used during training and extended range procedures to depths of up to 40 meters, and requiring staged decompression stops of no longer than 15 minutes based on a back gas profile.
Extended Range Nitrox Diving students may credit dives in this program to dives 1-4 of the Extended Range program, providing that the program was successfully completed in an Extended Range Total Diving System (twinset or sidemount). If Extended Range Nitrox Diving was completed in a recreational Total Diving System or Extended Range Nitrox Total Diving System (single cylinder) only academic credit for the Extended Range Nitrox Diving portion of the program can be given..
This is a performance based course and failure to meet the performance requirements will result in additional time being charged at the technical day rate
