SSI SCR Diving with the Mares Horizon
The SSI SCR Diving program provides divers with the knowledge and training necessary to independently plan and conduct semi-closed rebreather (SCR) dives to a maximum depth of 30 meters, using an SCR Total Diving System and SCR diving procedures with an equally- or more-qualified dive buddy. This course is designed for the Mares Horizon SCR, The Horizon is a Semi-Closed Rebreather which in easy terms is a Nitrox gas extender. It is built to be simple to make diving it even easier than open circuit and give you even more diving time.
WHAT DO I NEED TO START?
- Minimum Age: 18
- Certification Prerequisites: Enriched Air Nitrox 40 and Deep Diving.
- 24 Logged dives
- Complete the Medical Questionnaire which will be released to you via the SSI App.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED FOR THE SSI SCR DIVING COURSE?
A complete SCR Total Diving System
- A semi-closed rebreather that has CE-type and SSI approval
- A single stage cylinder with regulator with:
- Second stage regulator with 100cm - 110cm hose and SPG on 15cm hose. Oxygen cleaned with stage kit
- Mask
- Fins (spare straps)
- Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
- If doing Trimix option then a suit inflation system will also be required
- 2 surface marker buoys for deploying from depth (red and yellow surface marker buoys - UK) - (ensure they can be attached in your pockets with appropriate boltsnaps)
- 2 Spools or reel appropriate for the planned dive depth (ensure they can be attached in your pockets with appropriate boltsnaps)
- 2 Cutting devices
- Surface signaling device (whistle or similiar)
- Logbook (available in SSI app)
- Extended Range Dive Planning Sheets, and either wet notes or slate for dive plans
WHAT WILL I DO DURING THE SSI SCR DIVING COURSE?
You will be assigned and sent an email to view the course materials on www.divessi.com to start your academic development. We will schedule 1 day to complete the first part of the academic development and kit configuration session. The Pool session will contain the swim test and development of trim, buoyancy, and propulsion. 2 days of Open Water will be the bulk of the program, with further academic development session to be scheduled. Thorough de-briefing and feedback will be given at the end of each day.
We have a maximum ratio of 2:1 with instructors to ensure you have the best possible experience.

Prior to any Diver training course students need to complete a Mandatory Medical Questionaire.

A doctor's confirmation of fitness to dive is required if you answer YES to any medical condition on the Medical Statement.
