Fourth Element make dive wear designed by divers, and thermal protection is where they are best known. At Dive Rutland we carry that range in depth: Thermocline, Xerotherm, Arctic, Halo A°R and J2 layers, Proteus and Xenos wetsuits, hoods, gloves and dry glove systems, plus masks, fins, boots, bags and surface wear. Sizing varies across the ranges, so come and try things on.

About Fourth Element

Fourth Element make dive wear, and were started by divers. Thermal protection is where they are best known: the layers that go under a drysuit, and neoprene-free alternatives to a conventional wetsuit.

The range runs from base layers and wetsuits through to drysuit undersuits and surface wear, and covers divers from a first open water course through to cold-water and technical diving.

Fourth Element put a good deal of emphasis on sustainability. Their OceanPositive range is made using recycled materials, and they say their packaging is plastic-free. They also support a number of ocean conservation projects and expeditions. If that side of things matters to you, it is worth reading their own material on the specific product rather than taking a range-wide statement on trust.

At Dive Rutland it is one of the widest ranges we carry, which is why Fourth Element turns up across so many of our collections rather than only this one.

Fourth Element is one of the widest ranges we carry, and it reaches well beyond any single category. Everything below is in our current range:

Thermal base layers and undersuit layers — Arctic, Xerotherm, J2, Halo A°R and X-Core tops, leggings, one-pieces and vests, in men's and women's fits.
The Thermocline range — neoprene-free one-pieces, tops, leggings, vests, hoods and fin socks.

Choosing between the thermal ranges

Fourth Element's thermal layers are designed to work as a system rather than in isolation, and the right combination depends on the suit you dive, the water you dive in and how you personally run. Thicker and denser layers insulate more than thin ones, but they also add bulk and change your weighting, so it is worth checking the manufacturer specification for each garment and rethinking your lead when you change layers.

Sizing differs between the ranges — the fit of an Arctic one-piece is not the fit of a J2 top — so if you can, come to the shop and try them on. If you are not sure what will work for your diving, talk to us.

The Arctic, Xerotherm, Halo A°R and J2 ranges are base and undersuit layers made to be worn inside a drysuit. Thermocline and Hydroskin are designed to be worn wet, on their own or alongside a wetsuit. Beyond that it depends on the suit you dive, the water you dive in and how you personally run, so check the manufacturer specification for the garment and ask us if you are unsure.

Sizing varies between Fourth Element's ranges and between the men's and women's cuts, so your size in one range is not a guaranteed match in another. Check the manufacturer's size guide for the specific garment. A thermal layer that is too loose or too tight will not do its job properly, so if you can get to the shop it is worth trying it on.
