Mares

Mares has been making dive equipment for over 75 years, and the range we carry runs from X-Vision masks and Avanti fins through to XR Line tech fins, Puck dive computers, the Magellan HD BCD and the Horizon semi-closed rebreather. Optical lenses, snorkels, fin straps and a scattering of accessories fill in around them.

    About Mares

Mares was founded in Italy by Ludovico Mares, a diver and inventor. From his early days designing spearguns, masks and fins, his aim was to make diving equipment more accessible. The company has been running since 1949.

For over 75 years, Mares has been developing dive equipment, including early bi-material fins, liquid silicone masks, and regulators using their Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) system. Several of those design lines are still in the current range.

The Mares catalogue is organised into five main product lines:

    • Mares Core - recreational diving equipment
    • XR (Extended Range) - for technical, deep and cave diving
    • Pure Passion - freediving and spearfishing equipment
    • Aquazone - snorkelling and swimming gear for all ages
    • Diving Center - products made for dive centre use

With the addition of rEvo rebreathers and a close partnership with SSI, the Mares group now covers everything from snorkelling to rebreather diving.

Mares' own motto is Enjoy diving with advanced performance through superior technology.

    What we stock from Mares

Those five lines describe the Mares range as a whole rather than what sits on our shelves. What we carry here is drawn mainly from the Core and XR lines, and it looks like this.

    • Masks and lenses: the X-Vision and X-Vision Mid 2.0, the X-Force LS and the Combo Zoo, plus corrective optical lenses for the X-Vision, X-Vision Mid and Force-X.
    • Snorkels: the Ergo Splash and the Ergo Dry, along with a snorkelling vest.
    • Fins: Avanti Superchannel and Manta full foot fins, Avanti Quattro+ and Plana Avanti X3 open heel fins, and XR Line Power Plana Tec fins in plain and camo, with replacement straps, bungee straps and ABS buckles.
    • Regulators: the Dual ADJ 62X 75th Anniversary limited edition and the Dual Octopus, with an XR Line neck bungee and a Jax mouthpiece.
    • Dive computers: the Puck Pro+ and the Puck 4, with spare O-rings and battery lids.
    • BCD: the Magellan HD.
    • Rebreather: the Horizon semi-closed rebreather, with its stand, XR Line carry bag and LED tank module.
    • Accessories: a Divers Alert SMB, a marker beam, a reef hook, Flexa Fit gloves, a Cruise mesh backpack, a drysuit hanger, Tek shorts and a diver tool kit.

    A note on the Horizon

The Mares Horizon listed here is a semi-closed rebreather. Rebreathers are life-support equipment and need specific training and familiarisation, so if you are considering one, please talk to us before ordering rather than buying on spec. We are happy to go through what is involved.

    Who it suits

Between the masks, fins and Puck computers on one side and the XR Line fins and rebreather kit on the other, the Mares range here covers new divers and people working well beyond recreational limits. Masks especially are worth trying on, because fit varies from face to face, so come in and try a few if you can.

Yes, and with masks especially we would encourage it. Face shapes differ and a mask that seals well for one diver will leak for another, so come in and try a few. The same goes for fins, where foot pocket shape matters as much as the blade. Get in touch first to check what is in the shop.
Some. The parts currently listed here include replacement and bungee fin straps and ABS fin buckles, a Jax mouthpiece, an XR Line neck regulator bungee, a spare O-ring and battery lid for Puck dive computers, and a lithium battery for EOS torches. Parts are model specific and service intervals vary, so check the manufacturer specification for your own equipment, or tell us the model and we will help you work out what you need.
Quite possibly. If you cannot find the equipment you are looking for, please get in touch and tell us the model you want, and we will let you know what we can do.
