Work in the Best Office in the world and Live YOUR dream. There really is nothing more to say than that!
The rewards of being a Dive Instructor are boundless; changing people’s lives, helping to overcome fears, facilitating career and lifestyle changes, and forging deep and lasting friendships.Plenty of hard work and dedication are required. If you’re ready for that, then read on…
If you are reading this, then you know that diving is fun!! Learning to become a PADI Instructor should also be fun. We can guarantee to make your PADI IDC an enjoyable experience. It’s so important that you are well prepared and relaxed for your PADI IDC Instructor course. When you are relaxed, laughing and comfortable, you will learn a lot about teaching others to dive.
You, and the team that you’ll be working with, will develop varied ways of passing information and skills over to others. In a small group of no more than four, to ensure high quality and individual attention, you will learn and master the tools required to begin teaching others. You’ll learn how to:
Not only that, but you’ll learn how you will become very effective and an efficient mentor and coach because here at Dive Rutland we question the fact that you are an instructor. We can not instruct a student in "how to partially flood and clear your mask" what we can do is show them how we do it and then they have a go, this is coaching, the student effectively teaches themselves.
We will also cover in a separate module the UK HSE requirements for working Professionals, so YOU fully understand YOUR responsibilities if working in the UK.
Naturally, the IDC itself is demanding but we are proud of our Professional team who have huge amounts of energy, enthusiasm, humour and patience, with our Course Director Tracey Roberts we will thoroughly prepare you to be 100% ready for the Instructor Exam, but most importantly ready to teach real students afterwards. Yes it it is about passing the Instructor exam but really it's about your confidence to go and bring peoples dreams to life.
Others like you have become PADI Instructors with us and they are now around the world changing other people's lives! They are putting into practice what they learned during their PADI IDC with us. Even after the course we will stay in touch continue to support and provide advice.
Here at Dive Rutland we have two different offerings - Basic and Standard
Basic
Standard
Everything in Basic and :-
To be a professional in any field you must have the tools for the job! A good plumber would not think of turning up to work without his tools, and a good diving instructor also needs his tools!
This includes educational materials to ensure that he or she can present the required information professionally, is familiar with and knows what the student divers have been reading or watching and can safely introduce student divers to the world of diving!
You will need:
Prior to your IDC you will join us for two days of preparation - See Preparation below. This can be done in person with us onsite or spread over a number of nights virtually.
Whilst waiting to join your Instructor Development course our professional team will be here to mentor, guide and answer any questions that you have.
The Instructor Development course is eight days with us again either in a consolidated block or part-time remember the course is performance based and sometimes additional time is required.
The physical classroom sessions are held in the Dive Rutland Classroom, 1 Old Station Yard, Whissendine Road, Ashwell. Rutland LE15 7SP.
The pool sessions are held at Oakham School Pool, Kilburn Road, Oakham.
The open water sessions are held at a suitable Open Water site which could be Stoney Cove or another nearby water site.
We are happy to run IDC's for other dive centres at your location, please get in touch to discuss
At the start of the IDC you will complete a theory exam and an open book standards exam.
There is no time during the IDC to teach theory, yes you should have the knowledge but it is different knowing the theory and being able to teach it.
As you want to be well prepared and after your Instructor Exams to be a good coach and mentor to your future students, we will spend two days with you reviewing the five dive theory topics and during that time help you relate them to topics you will be able to teach during your career (some additional training might be required or additional qualifications, but during your time with us, we will help you relate and plan your future training options)
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"
-Albert Einstein
To prepare independently we recommend that you:
The two days will be arranged with you at times and dates to suit, this can be a weekend or held over a number of nights virtually.
Before your IDC why not take advantage of the opportunity to shadow one of our courses, see how we work with real students in the real world. Drinks - Tea, Coffee, hot chocolate, squash and water are provided throughout the classroom sessions, along with homemade cakes.
All IDC participants get a Stamford Notebooks notepad, to allow you to make those all important notes.
All our courses are ran fully in accordance with ALL HSE requirements including dedicated service support, we do not rely on our students to cover any part of our requirements, your role is to concentrate on the course!
We will be there to provide you with moral support during your local Instructor Exam.
The Crewpack includes all Digital presentations plus the required, hard-copy slates in a smart PADI Pro backpack.
Prior to your course you will be issued with the elearning codes to allow you to complete the prerequisite pre-reading. The slates and Backpack can be collected but will be available on the first day of your course.

Master Scuba Diver Instructor, for this you need to hold five speciality instructor ratings and certify 25 certifications.
You can choose to add in five instructor speciality ratings to your IDC, which will add two days to your time with us. But on successfully completing your Instructor exams gain your instructor speciality ratings or join us for a Speciality Instructor weekend, maybe in the weeks immediately after your exams
