PADI Coral Conservation Speciality

The Coral Reef Conservation Speciality is a non-diving program designed to familiarise divers AND non-divers with the complexity of coral reef habitats and teaches you how you can help conserve these vital systems. It also covers the role Project AWARE Foundation plays in protecting aquatic ecosystems worldwide.

Coral Conservation Speciality Overview

During this classroom based Specialty, you will learn about the biodiversity of coral reef systems and why they are so important to the ecosystem, the benefits they provide to island, coastal regions and tourism, how they benefit human health. What coral is, how it lives, grows and feeds and then how it dies. Then most importantly what we can do to preserve it.

What Will I do during the Coral Conservation Speciality?

Through the classroom session you will:-

  • Learn how coral reefs function;
  • Why they are so important;
  • Understand why coral is so important
  • Learn why the reefs are in serious trouble
  • Learn what YOU can do to prevent further decline
  • Find out how Project AWARE unites us all to make a difference

Who Should take the Coral Conservation Speciality?

Anyone who has an interest in the aquatic world and learning more about Coral reefs should.  There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or water sessions required for this non-diving specialty and therefore its available to anyone who wants to make a difference.

How Long does the Coral Conservation Speciality Take?

This course takes between 2 - 3 hours and there is a little bit of pre-reading.
