SSI Coral Identification
The Coral Identification programme is a non-diving program designed to familiarise divers AND non-divers with the complexity of coral reef habitats and teaches you how you can help conserve these vital systems.
CORAL IDENTIFICATION OVERVIEW
During this classroom based Speciality, you will learn about the biodiversity of coral reef systems and why they are so important to the ecosystem, the benefits they provide to island, coastal regions and tourism, how they benefit human health. What coral is, how it lives, grows and feeds and then how it dies. Then most importantly what we can do to preserve it.
WHAT WILL I DO DURING THE CORAL IDENTIFICATION SPECIALITY?
Through the classroom session and pre-read undertaken via the SSI App you will:-
- Learn how coral reefs function;
- Why they are so important;
- Understand why coral is so important
- Learn why the reefs are in serious trouble
- Learn what YOU can do to prevent further decline
WHO SHOULD TAKE THE CORAL IDENTIFICATION SPECIALITY?
Anyone who has an interest in the aquatic world and learning more about Coral reefs should. There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or water sessions required for this non-diving specialty and therefore its available to anyone who wants to make a difference.
HOW LONG DOES THE CORAL IDENTIFICATON SPECIALITY TAKE?
This course takes between 2 - 3 hours and there is a little bit of pre-reading.
Prior to any Diver training course students need to complete a Mandatory Medical Questionaire.
Please ensure that you have read the Medical Statement and are sure that you will be able to commence any diver training PRIOR to paying as our Training Terms Conditions apply after payment has been made.
A doctor's confirmation of fitness to dive is required if you answer YES to any medical condition on the Medical Statement.
