Try Scuba Diving
The Try Scuba Diving session lets you experience the thrill of diving underwater whilst under the close supervision of one of our Dive Professionals. During your adventure, you'll master some basic concepts and scuba skills, gain experience of breathing and seeing underwater and feel the attraction of SCUBA through being weightless, enhancing your own sense of serenity and relaxation.
Whether you approach the Try Dive for a “try” or “experience” or both, we are sure the adventure will stay clearly in your memory!
If you are unable to make any of the sessions showing, then please book onto the 31st December course and we will be in touch to arrange a date and time that is mutually convienent.
What Do I need to start?
- Be at least 8 years or older
- Complete the Medical Questionnaire which will be released to you via the SSI App.
What will I do during a Try Scuba Diving Session
Prior to the session you will complete a small online review via the SSI App and complete all required paperwork.
Meet us at our Nottingham Training Facility. prior to the pool session where you will meet your instructional team for an introductory talk, be fitted and introduced to the equipment you’ll be using as well as the all important safety briefing and what you can expect.
Depending on which option you choose
You will be provided with school mask, snorkel and fins for your session
Then you will spend a minimum of an hour underwater, having fun breathing and experiencing what it is like to be underwater and we know you’ll enjoy every minute!
We will help you through every step of your adventure. Our staff will help you to put on your SCUBA gear and guide you into the water where you’ll have the chance to dive down up to 4 metres.

Our maximum group size for Try Scuba sessions is four
What Do I need to bring with me?
- Your sense of adventure
- Your parent or guardian if you are under 16.
- Swimming costume, shorts/t-shirt, towel - if you have a wetsuit then please feel free to bring that along to wear.

Nottingham Scuba Diving Facility
The training facility at our Nottingham location features a purpose-built pool that is 4 meters deep and 10 meters in diameter, providing an exceptional environment for scuba diving training. The pool boasts fantastic visibility and maintains a constant temperature of around 29 degrees, ensuring optimal comfort for all divers.
A 1.6-meter training platform extends over 50% of the pool's bottom surface, offering ample space for practicing various diving skills. The pool's unique design, with a bottom depth of 4 meters, allows divers to swim in a 30-meter circular path, simulating open water conditions. This facility also includes a gas filling station, a classroom, and an equipment showroom, making it a comprehensive training center for divers of all levels.
Oakham Swimming Pool
The 25m heated swimming pool at Oakham School's Leisure Centre is perfect for scuba diver training and kids' diving courses. This state-of-the-art facility provides laned sections for focused training and a comfortable, warm environment, ensuring an ideal learning experience for divers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're refining your technique or introducing children to the wonders of diving, our pool offers the perfect setting.
Our pool session(s) are on Saturday evenings from 18:00 - 20:00, with a meet at the Dive Centre prior (this time will be confirmed when you book). The time at the Dive Centre is spent on various activities depending on which course you are undertaking but for all first session this will involve introducing you to your instructor, the dive equipment you will be using in the pool, a safety briefing and the evenings activities. During non term time then we have a pool session available on a Thursday from 19:00 - 21:00.
