 SSI Instructor Development Course(IDC)

Work in the Best Office in the world and Live YOUR dream. There really is nothing more to say than that!

Why become a Dive Instructor?

The rewards of being a Dive Instructor are boundless; changing people’s lives, helping to overcome fears, facilitating career and lifestyle changes, and forging deep and lasting friendships. Plenty of hard work and dedication are required. If you’re ready for that, then read on…

Why Choose Dive Rutland for your SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC)?

If you are reading this, then you know that diving is fun!! Learning to become an SSI Instructor should also be fun. We can guarantee to make your SSI ITC an enjoyable experience. It’s so important that you are well prepared and relaxed for your SSI IDC Instructor course. When you are relaxed, laughing and comfortable, you will learn a lot about teaching others to dive.

You, and the team that you’ll be working with, will develop varied ways of passing information and skills over to others. In a small group, to ensure high quality and individual attention, you will learn and master the tools required to begin teaching others. You’ll learn how to:

  1. Build rapport with your future students
  2. Create confidence in others
  3. Teach everybody, regardless of their individual learning style
  4. Allow students to learn in their own way
  5. You’ll learn to “Teach People – and NOT Courses!”
  6. Teach students whilst in a natural diving position, not on their knees
  7. Kneeling way and neutral way - Different ways of getting the student to be successful with skills depending on working conditions and environment.

Not only that, but you’ll learn how you will become very effective and an efficient mentor and coach because here at Dive Rutland we question the fact that you are an instructor. We can not instruct a student in "how to partially flood and clear your mask" what we can do is show them how we do it and then they have a go, this is coaching, the student effectively teaches themselves.

We will also cover in a separate module the UK HSE requirements for working Professionals, so YOU fully understand YOUR responsibilities if working in the UK.

Naturally, the IDC itself is demanding but we are proud of our Professional team who have huge amounts of energy, enthusiasm, humour and patience, we will thoroughly prepare you to be 100% ready for the Instructor Exam, but most importantly ready to teach real students afterwards. Yes it it is about passing the Instructor exam but really it's about your confidence to go and bring peoples dreams to life.

You are welcome to gain teaching experience, by shadowing one of our staff teaching an SSI course. You see for yourself the practicalities of running a course and make a smooth transition to teaching students of your own.

Others like you have become Instructors with us and they are now around the world changing other people's lives! They are putting into practice what they learned during their IDC with us. Even after the course we will stay in touch continue to support and provide advice.

SSI Instructor Development Course preparation

As the ITC is all about becoming an SSI Instructor it is necessary for you have your skills and knowledge up to date. As such it is important the you can do all the skills in the SSI Open Water Diver Course comfortably as well as the Diver Stress and Rescue Skills.
