SSI Explorer - Nottingham

Life is about adventures and experiences

Here is your chance to do some cool stuff in the pool, meet new friends and have adventures in the underwater world

Course Overview

Combined with the guidance and supervision of qualified SSI Explorers Instructors, this program includes a comprehensive printed Explorers manual to help your child learn the knowledge and skills they need to safely participate in snorkelling, mermaid, freediving, and scuba in a pool or confined water environment. The manual is very engaging, with colourful cartoon drawings and authentic ocean images for this young audience.

We join Emma and Nico on exciting underwater adventures as they guide your children through the educational content in a fun and engaging way, using Spike the shark as their equipment expert and Shelly the sea turtle as the ocean environment champion.

What Do I need to Start?

  • You need to be 8 years old or over
  • Parents to download the SSI app and complete the required student medical and responsibility code of diving for the young explorer.

What Will I do?

The SSI Explorers package consists of SIX sessions with our highly qualified dive professionals.  Each session consists of two elements - one dry and the other wet.

During the  dry session we will review the 'theory' and dry skills element that will have been pre-read prior to the session via the manual provided.   Followed by an in pool session where we will  teach your child how to snorkel and dive and the skills learnt will be consolidated by underwater games.

During each session we will teach the basics of snorkelling and diving, just like the adults - things like buoyancy control, mask skills and regulator recovery which once learnt are then integrated with underwater games to continue to practise and apply the new skills learnt.

On completion of session one subject to meeting all the performance requirement the SSI Snorkel Explorer certification will be achieved and at the end of session six the Scuba Explorer certification

This course is designed for young divers who are looking for action packed fun in a pool, being introduced to the basics of safe diving in a play environment as not yet old enough to start on the Junior Open Water course.

What are the benefits of the SSI Explorer?

  • Helps children learn responsibility
  • Teaches children about the aquatic environment
  • Is a fun pool-only experience
  • Is conducted by certified, trained SSI Professionals
  • In addition to having fun the SSI Explorers adventures will enable young water lovers to acquire maturity, self-esteem, and a sense of responsibility

Materials

Each of our Explorer members receive their own Special materials (manual and stickers) that includes everything an Explorer needs to gain the maximum benefit from their certification.

The manual will be used for Explorers and Master Explorers and as each adventure is completed becomes a reference and log of all of their activities.

How Long Does it Take?

Over six sessions you will meet your SSI Dive Professional at our Nottingham Training Facility for a full briefing and equipment preparation, followed by a 1 hour pool session  and a debrief session.

On completion of the five sessions you will have achieve the Snorkelling and Scuba Explorer certifications.

Each session also requires a parent/guardian to be present throughout.

The Explorer Calendar can be viewed here

Any Other Costs?

We do strongly advise for hygiene purpose that all students own their own mask and snorkel, but not mandatory as school masks and snorkels can and will be provided

Parents or Guardians

The best part of the Explorer programmes is that they reinforce safe diving and build water confidence while the young divers are having fun. Explorers get to sample a wide variety of dives.  In addition, this programme provides a structure for young divers to develop skills, learn about the aquatic environment and have a lot of fun.

This is also an excellent introduction to SCUBA diving prior to full Open Water Diver certification

What is the Maximum Group Size?

Four

What is the Next Adventure?

Become a Master Explorer by completing Specialities ranging from night diving to Underwater photography

Or

Become a fully fledged diver and go and explore the oceans, lakes and seas we have in this country and around the world by becoming an Open Water diver (Junior)

Couldnt recommend Tracy and her team enough for a first aid course. Having to renew it every 3 years used to send me to sleep. Not with these guys! professional, up to date and with lots of toys to play with, without the death by powerpoint.
